Huangshan (黄山) — the legendary Yellow Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its granite peaks, oddly shaped pines, seas of clouds and hot springs. The highest peak is Lotus Peak (1864 m). This is one of the most scenic places in China, having inspired poets and artists for centuries.
What awaits you: a two‑day trip with an overnight stay on the mountain. Cable car ascent, a walk along the famous trails (“West Canyon”, “Beginning of Heaven”), sunrise viewing on the summit, a visit to the hot springs and, of course, the legendary “Guest‑greeting Pine”.

- Meeting and transfer — we will pick you up from a metro station in Shanghai and take you to the railway station (train option) or directly to Huangshan Mountain (car option).
- Travel by high‑speed train (if economy option chosen) — a comfortable train will take you to Huangshan North Station in just 3 hours.
- Cable car ascent — enjoy the views from above without spending energy on a long climb. You can also hike up if you wish (about 3–4 hours).
- Walk along the famous trails — we will go through the West Canyon (the most scenic part), see the Guest‑greeting Pine, Lotus Peak and other wonders.
- Overnight stay in a hotel on the summit — a comfortable room with mountain views, so you can watch the sunrise in the morning.
- Sunrise viewing — ascent to the viewing platform to see the famous sea of clouds and the first rays of sun over the peaks.
- Second day: continue walking — visit the eastern peaks, temples, descend by another cable car.
- Hot springs (optional) — relax after the two‑day trip at the foot of the mountain.
- Lunch at a local restaurant — get acquainted with the cuisine of Anhui province (famous tofu, bamboo, herbal soups).
- Visit to the ancient villages of Hongcun or Xidi (optional, if time permits) — UNESCO sites, picturesque landscapes where the film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” was shot.
- Return to Shanghai — in the evening you will be taken to a metro station or railway station.
- Photos and tips as a souvenir — the guide will share recommendations for further travels in China.

Technically yes, but you will miss the sunrise and the sea of clouds, and you will be very tired. We recommend the two‑day format.

🏔️ Emperor Huang‑di and the elixir of immortality
The name “Yellow Mountains” (Huangshan) is given in honour of the legendary Emperor Huang‑di (the Yellow Emperor), who is considered the ancestor of all Chinese. According to legend, he came here in search of the elixir of immortality, smelted his bronze here and eventually ascended to heaven from these peaks. Best told at the foot or on a viewing platform.
🌲 Guest‑greeting Pine (Yingke Song)
This pine is over 1000 years old. It grows on a cliff and, with one of its branches (about 10 metres long), seems to greet guests. It is considered a symbol of the hospitality of Huangshan and all of China. Its image can be seen on many souvenirs. Best told right next to it, pointing out the shape of the branch.
☁️ Sea of clouds (Yunhai)
The clouds here are called a “sea” because they often fill the valleys, leaving the peaks as islands. The best time to observe them is after rain or early in the morning. It is said that this is where the myth of the “Land of the Immortals” and the “Islands of the Immortals” in Chinese mythology originated. This story is best told on Guangmingding or Shixinfeng peak when clouds appear.
🪷 Peaks that inspired poets
The famous Tang dynasty poet Li Bai wrote: “After descending Huangshan, you don’t need to look at other mountains.” Many emperors, including Qianlong, came here for inspiration. On the rocks you can still find calligraphic inscriptions made by ancient masters. You can show one of these inscriptions (if you know where it is).
♨️ Healing springs
The hot springs at the foot of the mountain are famous for their healing water, which stays at about 45°C all year round. Legend has it that Huang‑di himself was cured of an illness here. The water is rich in minerals, good for the skin and joints. Can be told before visiting the springs or on the way to them.
🏘️ Villages where time stood still
If you go to Hongcun or Xidi (UNESCO sites), tell that these villages have preserved the architecture of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The fight scene on the lake in the film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” was shot in Hongcun. Also note the unique sewage system and the shape of the lake resembling an ox.
