Jinxi Ancient Town (锦溪古镇) is a quiet and authentic ancient water town with over 2,000 years of history, located in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. Founded during the Warring States period, it is famous for its 36 ancient bridges and peaceful atmosphere. Unlike more popular water towns, Jinxi offers a unique opportunity to see the real life of local people without crowds of tourists. The town is known as the "House of Folk Museums of China" thanks to its numerous private museums housed in ancient buildings. An authentic old China atmosphere has been preserved here, and entry to the town itself is free.

The most convenient way is a high-speed train to Kunshan (about 20 minutes), then a taxi to Jinxi (30 minutes). We arrange all transfers.
Why is entry to Jinxi free?
Jinxi has retained its authentic atmosphere and is not as commercialised as other water towns. Entry to the town itself is free; you only pay for individual museums and boat rides.
How long does the tour take?
A full tour including travel from Shanghai takes 8-9 hours. We recommend setting aside a full day. It can be combined with a visit to Zhouzhuang.
How is Jinxi different from Zhouzhuang?
Jinxi is less touristy, more authentic and peaceful. There are fewer crowds, entry is free, and the atmosphere is more 'living', with local residents.
Can Jinxi and Zhouzhuang be visited in one day?
Yes, this is a popular route. Jinxi in the morning (2-3 hours), then transfer to Zhouzhuang (30 minutes) for the second half of the day. We offer combined tours.
What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes for walking on pavements and bridges, water, camera, cash in yuan for extra expenses (boat, museums, souvenirs), passport (copy).

📜 Legend of Jinxi
Jinxi was founded during the Warring States period (about 2,200 years ago). Legend says that the name "Golden Stream" is linked to a love story – the daughter of a noble family, buried on the lake, loved this town very much. Her tomb, Chenfei Shuizhong, still attracts visitors.
