Jiulongshan: Seaside Forest Park "Southern Beidaihe"

Jiulongshan National Forest Park (九龙山国家森林公园) in Pinghu is a unique place where dense coniferous forests descend straight to the rocky coastline. It is often called the "southern Beidaihe" because of its healing air and picturesque views. Only 110 km from Shanghai, you will find well‑kept eco‑trails, an ancient fort with cannons, a suspension bridge to an island and endless sea vistas.

This trip is the perfect way to recharge after working days. We will take a leisurely walk along the coastline, climb to viewpoints, take vivid photos and have lunch at a local restaurant. The route is very easy, suitable for families with children and elderly people.

Frequently asked questions

Is the park suitable for stroller walks?
Yes, the main trails have hard surfaces or wooden boardwalks suitable for strollers. However, the ascent to the fort involves steps, so it is better to visit it without a stroller.
Is swimming in the sea allowed?
There is no official beach in the park, but there are picturesque breakwaters where you can sit by the water. Swimming is not recommended due to rocks and currents.
Is there a café in the park?
There is a small kiosk selling drinks and snacks inside the park, but we will have a proper lunch at a trusted seafood restaurant after the walk.
Which is better – spring or autumn?
Both seasons are beautiful. In spring everything blooms and is very green, while autumn offers soft sunshine and clear air. Summer can be hot and crowded.
Should I take food with me?
We recommend taking a snack and water for the walk, but after the park we will go for lunch at a good restaurant in the city.
Is the route difficult?
No, the route is very easy. The altitude difference is small, there are stairs and handrails everywhere. Suitable for people of any fitness level.
