Quarry Hotel, 80m Waterfall & Smurfs Park

深坑秘境·精灵之城 (Shēnkēng Mìjìng · Jīnglíng zhī Chéng) is a unique entertainment complex built on the site of an abandoned quarry in Songjiang District, Shanghai. The main attraction is the famous InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland hotel, "carved" into the vertical wall of the quarry (18 floors, two of which are underwater). Next to the hotel is an 80-meter artificial waterfall cascading straight from the cliff.

Visitors can walk on the 100-meter glass bridge at a height of 88 m above the quarry floor, offering breathtaking views of the hotel, waterfall and underground lake. For families with children, the indoor Smurfs theme park (蓝精灵乐园) features 9 themed areas, rides, 3D cinema, carousels and meet‑and‑greets with beloved characters.

Sample tour itinerary

09:00 – Departure from Shanghai – meeting at Xinzhuang metro station, about 40 km (40–50 minutes) to Songjiang District.
10:00 – Arrival at "Deep Pit Wonderland" (深坑秘境) – entry, briefing by the guide.
10:15–12:30 – Walk through the "Deep Pit Wonderland" park – glass bridge (88 m height, 100 m length), 80-meter waterfall, panoramic cable car, "Pendulum over the abyss" attraction (optional), photo spots with a view of the hotel.
12:30–13:30 – Lunch – at a cafe on site (various dishes, including a children's menu).
13:30–16:30 – Smurfs Park (蓝精灵乐园) – indoor theme park: 9 zones, 3D cinema "Flight over China", roller coaster, interactive shows, arcade games, meet‑and‑greet with Smurfs and other characters.
16:30–17:00 – Free time – souvenir shops, memory photos.

Both parks are close to each other, the transfer takes 5 minutes on foot.
In "Deep Pit Wonderland", some attractions operate only in warm seasons, but the glass bridge and waterfall are open all year round.
The Smurfs Park maintains a constant temperature of +22°C, dress for the weather outside, you can take off layers inside.
Children under 1.2 m receive significant discounts on entrance tickets.
You must have the original passport (for park entry).

Is the tour suitable for children?

Yes, it is an ideal family route. The Smurfs Park is completely indoor and aimed at children from 3 years old. The glass bridge is safe, but children under 5 may be scared – parents decide.

What should I bring?

Comfortable shoes, water, light jacket (air conditioning in the indoor park), passport, cash for lunch and souvenirs, camera. On sunny days – sunglasses (it's bright on the glass bridge).

How long does the tour take?

About 10–12 hours. Departure from Shanghai at 09:00, return around 18:30–19:00.

Can I take photos on the glass bridge?

Yes, photos and videos are allowed. Using flash, running, jumping, and dropping heavy objects is prohibited.

Is the combo ticket mandatory?

No, you can visit only one park. But the combo is more cost‑effective and allows you to spend a full day.

Do I need to know Chinese?

No, you will have a Russian guide who will help with tickets, navigation and translation.
