Mudu: Imperial gardens by the water canals

Mudu (木渎古镇) is an ancient water town at the foot of Tianping Mountain, one of the most authentic and well‑preserved historic towns in the Suzhou area. Founded more than 2,500 years ago, Mudu is famous for its classical Suzhou‑style gardens, stone bridges and rich historical heritage linked to Emperor Qianlong. Unlike other water towns, Mudu offers a unique combination of exquisite gardens, imperial history and the atmosphere of old China without large tourist crowds.
