The town is crisscrossed by 15 canals connected by 49 elegant stone bridges, with traditional white houses with black tile roofs lining the banks. Tongli is famous for its classical gardens, temples and mansions of wealthy merchants, which have preserved the original architecture and atmosphere of old China.
