Mysterious Wushan Grottoes by the sea
Wushan Grottoes (伍山石窟) are a unique complex of ancient man-made stone quarries in Ninghai County (Zhejiang Province), located just a few kilometers from the East China Sea. Unlike the famous Longyou Caves, Wushan is a place where high-quality stone was extracted for centuries. Here you will find giant underground halls, perfectly smooth wall cuts, and traces of ancient tools.
What awaits you inside: You will see over 30 cave halls connected by corridors and stairs. Some halls are partially flooded, creating an amazing "water mirror" effect that reflects the vaults. On the walls are preserved wedge and chisel marks — evidence of how ancient craftsmen extracted stone. From above, you can enjoy picturesque views of the sea and green hills.
